Stomach Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior tibial muscl-interosseous membrane of leg-posterior tibial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the lateral cutaneous nerve of the calf. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the anterior tibial artery and the vein.


Location:
1. Sitting upright with flexed knees; 3 cun vertically below the external XiyanEXLE5 (EX-LE5), one finger breadth apart from anterior tibial crista laterally. 2. Stroke tuberosity of tibia downwards with one hand from the centre of knee-cap, 1 cun directly below the external lower border of the tuberosity of tibia. 3. Bid the patient press his knee-cap, and stroke tibia below the knee joint, the spot where the tip of his middle finger touches is ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point).
Function:
Building up the spleen and stomach, regulating the body resistance, regulating the flow of qi, and clearing and activating channels and collaterals.


Indications:
Gastric pain, vomiting, hiccup, abdominal distension, borborygmus, Diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, mastitis, enteritis, aching of the knee joint and leg, beriberi, edema, cough, asthma, emaciation due to general deficiency, indigestion, apoplexy, hemiplegia, dizziness, insomnia, and mania.


Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of hypertension; with ShaozeSI1 (Shaoze (SI1) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of agalactosis; with NeiquanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of ulcer; with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) for treatment of ascariosis; with TianshuST25 (ST25), ShangjuxuST37 (Shangjuxu (ST37) The Lower He-Sea Point of the Large Intestine), GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine), XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point), and WailingST26 ( Wailing (ST26)) for treatment of chronic enferitis; and with HuangshuKI16(Huangshu (KI16)), FushePC13(PC13), NeiguanPC6 (PC6), and GuanyuanshuBL26 (Guanyuanshu (BL26)) for treatment of appendicitis.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1.0-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension, radiating towards the foot, or up towards the knee joint; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
