Stomach Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior sheath of rectus muscle of abdomen-rectus muscle of abdomen.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral and anterior cutaneous branches of the anterior braches of the 7th to 9th thoracic nerves of the superficial epigastric vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior epigastric artery and vein and the muscular branches of the anterior branches of the 7th to 9th thoracic nerves.


Location:
Supine position; firstly, locate ZhongwanCV12(Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach), 4 cun above the level of umbilicus, 2 cun apart from this point laterally.
Function:
Strengthening the spleen and stomach to promote digestion..


Indications:
Gastric pain, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal distension, and Diarrhea.


Prescription:
Combined use with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) and WeishuBL21 (Weishu (BL21)) for treatment of gastritis; with YangfuGB38 (Yangfu (GB38) Jing-River Point) for treatment of intermittent fever.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don't puncture deeply and perform manipulation of lifting, thrusting and twirling , or else the needle would penetrate the posterior wall of vagina musuli rectiabdominis-the transverse fascia-the extraperitoneal axungia-the parietal peritoneum-the peritoneal cavity-the visceral peritoneum and the stomach (near the pylorus on right side and on the body of stomach on left side) and cause an injury to gastric wall and the profluvium of gastric content.
