Urine Bladder Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-medial border of splenius muscle of head-semispinal muscle of head.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial branches of the posterior branches of the 3rd cervical nerve and the subcutaneous vein. In the deep layer, yhere is the greater occipital nerve.


Location:
Sit upright with one`s head slightly anteverted; firstly, locate YamenGV15(Yamen (GV15)), 1.3 cun lateral to YamenGV15(GV15), on the lateral side of trapezius muscle.
Function:
Strengthening the bones and muscles, tranquilizing the mind.


Indications:
Headache, stiffness and pain of the nape, laryngopharyngitis, hysteria, neurasthenia, chronic rhinitis, and epistaxis.


Prescription:
Combined use with YanglaoSI6 (Yanglao (SI6) Xi-Cleft Point) for treatment of cervical spondylosis; with YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3) for treatment of rhinitis; with DazhuBL11(Dazhu (BL11) Influential point of bone), GeshuBL17 (Geshu (BL17)), GanshuBL18 (Ganshu (BL18)), SanjiaoshuBL22 (Sanjiaoshu (BL22)), ChengmanST20 (Chengman (ST20)), LiangmenST21 (Liangmen (ST21)) for treatment of gastroptosis; with ShenzhuGV12 (Shenzhu (GV12)), FengmenBL12(Fengmen (BL12)), LianquanCV23 (Lianquan (CV23)), RenyingST9 (Renying (ST9)), YaoyangguanGV3 (Yaoyangguan (GV3)), DaimaiGB26 (Daimai (GB26)) for treatment of thyroid enlargement.


Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 5-10 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t adopt deep puncture blindly, or else the needle would injure the vertebral artery between the lateral mass of atlas and the transverse process of the 2nd cervical vertebrae in the deep layer of muscle.
