The characteristics of pathological mechanism of rheumatoid arthritis:
(1) Deficiency is the root; Bi syndrome is from inside of body.
(2) Tendons and bones dystrophy, main ymptoms are swelling and pain
(3) Lingering and refractory, dampness evil makes the mischief

Method of administration:
(1) Strengthen spleen and protect kidney, dispel wind and remove dampness, unblock the connecting channels: Self-made Tong Bi Decoction: Huang Qi [3], Fang Ji [4], Bai Zhu [5], Fu Ling [6], Gan Cao [7], Niu Xi [8], Fang Feng [9], Qiang Huo [10], Du Huo [11], Qing Feng Teng, Hai Feng Teng [12], ji Xue Teng [13], Tao Ren [14], Huang Hua, Di Long [15], Chuan Shan Jia [16]. Tong Bi Decoction was made from Yu Ping Feng San and Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang.
(2) A based prescription plus differential treatment: add Gui Zhi [17], Xi Xin [18], Chuan Wu, Cao Wu for cold-damp block meridians; add Qin Jiao [19], Ren Dong Teng, Lou Lu [20], Yi Yi Ren [21] Sheng Di Huang [22] for damp-heat block meridians; add Sheng Di Huang, Dang Gui [23], Bai Shao [24] Yao, Qin Jiao, Sang Zhi [25], Xi Xin etc for simultaneous occurrence of cold and heat; cut Fang Feng, Qiang Huo, add Quan Xie [26], Wu Gong [27], Sheng Di Huang, Shu Di Huang [28], Gou Ji [29], Ba Ji Tian [30], Ying Yang Huo, Dang Gui, Bai Shao Yao, Bai Hua She etc for spleen and kidney deficiency.
