Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-root of nail.
There are the branches of the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve of the foot, the dorsal digital nerve and the dorsal artery and vein in this area.
Location:
Upright sitting with drooping feet or supine position; at the meeting point of the line along the medial side of the nail and that along the base of the nail of the great toe.
Function:
Invigorating the spleen, dispersing coldness of the extremities and stimulating the menstrual flow during amenorrhea.
Indications:
Abdominal distension, bloody stools, menorrhagia, uterine bleeding, mental disorders, dream-disturbed sleep, and convulsion.
Prescription:
Combined use with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) and ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of acute gastroenteritis; with ShangqiuSP5 (Shangqiu (SP5) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of chronic tetany. with GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) and SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)) for treatment of metrorrhagia; with WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) for treatment of epistaxis; with YongquanKI1 (Yongquan (KI1) Jing-Well Point), LiduiST45 (Lidui (ST45) Jing-Well Point), ShaoshangLU11 (Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point), ZhongchongPC9 (Zhongchong (PC9) Jing-Well Point) and ShenmenHT7 (Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point) for treatment of syncope.
Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously 0.1-0.3 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of soreness; moxibustion: using 1-3 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
