The Discussion on Chronic Cor Pulmonale Treated by Differentiation of Traditional Chinese medicine [1]

The key pathogenesis of chronic cor pulmonale is phlegm with stasis, while the basic reason of internal phlegm is disorder of the lung, spleen and kidney. The blood stasis is caused by qi deficiency, phlegm stagnation, obstruction of meridians and collaterals, and invasion of collaterals due to long term disease. Hence, the treatment of chronic cor pulmonale should be benefiting qi, warming yang, eliminating stagnated qi to open yang, activating blood, and remove stasis and phlegm. The modifications of Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang, Xiao Qing Long Tang, Wu Ling San, Ji Sheng Shen Qi Wan and Zhen Wu Tang are commonly used. For the purple lip and tongue, or petechia of tongue, blue hands and feet, or pain in chest, hesitant pulse, Tao Ren [3], Hong Hua [4], Chi Shao [5], Huai Niu Xi [6], Dang Gui [7] and San Qi [8] to treat blood stasis.
