4 INDICATIONS
a) cough due to invasion by exogenous pathogenic factors manifested as cough with profuse sputum-Aster root (Zi Wan [3]) is used with Schizonepeta (Jing Jie [4]) and Swallowwort rhizome (Bai Qian [5]); b) cough due to deficiency of the lungs manifested as cough with scanty sputum or with bloody sputum. Aster root (Ziwan) is used with Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhi Mu [6]), Tendrilled fritillary bulb (Chuan Bei Mu [7]) and Donkey hide gelatin (E Jiao [8]) in the formula Ziwan Tang.
