108 Cases of Bell's Palsy Treated with Acupuncture and Microwave Therapy [1]

In these 108 cases, the pathogenic factors are invasion of wind cold, virus infection, and otitis media, and accidental surgical injury. The disease courses are 2 days to several months. Treatments: the acupionts for microwave therapy: posterior auricular and Ashi points. Manipulation: applying home-made MTC-4 microwave therapy apparatus, with 240MHz frequency and 0~110W delivered power. Applying electric current of 15mA, irradiation distance of  3~5cm, irradiation time of 15min. Acupuncture: prescription: Extra Qianzheng, Chengjiang (CV24) [3], Jiache (ST6) [4] penetrating Dicang (ST4) [5], Yifeng (TE17) [6], Extra Taiyang, Sibai (ST2) [7], Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point [8], Yangbai (GB14) [9], Tinghui (GB2) [10], Yingxiang (LI20) [11], Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point [12] and Fengchi (GB20) [13]. Manipulation: selecting 4~5 acupoints, retaining for 20 minutes.2 pairs of the pointed are selected to be slightly stimulated by 10 minutes. The stimulation makes patients feel comfortable and slight jump of muscle can be seen. 10 days makes one course. The patients are advised to have proper rest, keep warm and resist infection. The curative effect is observed after 3 courses. Curative effect: the total effect is 99.07%.
