Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of mouth.
In the superficial layer, there are the branches of the infraorbital nerve of the maxilary nerve and so on. In the deep layer, there are the artery and vein of the upper lip and the buccal branches of the facial nerve.


Location:
Proper sitting with one's back propped or supine position. Firstly, locate ShuigouGV26 (Shuigou (GV26) [3]) (on the border between the upper and middle third of the distance between the nose and the upper lip). Then, 0.5 cun apart from ShuigouGV26 (GV26) laterally.
Function:
Expelling wind and promoting the restoration of consciousness.


Indications:
Nasal obstruction, epistaxis, deviation of the mouth.


Prescription:
Combined use with YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3) for treatment of epistaxis; and with TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) and JiacheST6 (Jiache (ST6) [4]) for treatment of facial paralysis.


Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 0.2-0.3 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using mild moxibustion for 2 min, contraiodicating moxa cone moxibustion.
