1. Goiter. Seaweed (Hai Zao [3]) is used with Laminaria (Kun Bu [4]) in the formula Haizao Yuhu Tang.2. Scrofula Seaweed (Haizao) is used with Prunella spike (Xia Ku Cao [5]), Scrophularia (Xuan Shen [6] ) and Tendrilled fritillary bulb (Chuanbei-mu) in the formula Neiziao lei li Wam.3.Edema of the foot or general edema. Seaweed (Haizao) is used with poria (Fu Ling [7]) and Alismatis rhizome (Ze Xie [8]).

This herb should not be combined with Licorice root (Gan Cao [9]), as they counteract each other.
