3 FUNCTIONS
1. To clear heat and reduce fire; 2. To nourish yin and moisten dryness.


4 INDICATIONS
1. Excessive heat at the qi level. Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhi Mu [3]) is used with Gypsum (Shi Gao [4]) in the formula Baihu Tang.2. Cough due to heat in the lungs or dry cough due to deficient yin. Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhimu) is used with Tendrilled fritillary bulb (Chuan Bei Mu [5]) in the formula Ermu San.3. Deficient yin of the lungs and kidneys with heat signs manifested s afternoon fever, night sweating and feverish sensation of the palms, soles and chest, Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhimu) is used with Phellodendron bark (Huang Bai [6]).4. Diabetes manifested as extreme thirst and hunger and profuse urine. Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhimu) is used with Trichosanthes root (Tian Hua Fen [7]), Schisandra fruit (Wu Wei Zi [8]), Ophiopogon root (Maidong) and Pueraria root (Ge Gen [9]) in the formula Yuye Tang.


5 DOSAGE
6-12g


6 COUTIONS
This herb is contraindicated in Diarrhea [10] due to weakness of the spleen.
