Acupuncture Points / Gallbladder Meridian [2]

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-superior anricualr muscle-temporal fascia-temporal muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the auriculotemporal nerve and the parietal branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the anterior and posterior deep temporal nerves.


Location:
Sit upright with one's back propped, or lie prostrate on one's side; firstly, locate TouweiST8( Touwei (ST8) [3]) and QubinGB7(Qubin (GB7) [4]), draw a curve connecting these two points which bends forward, midpoint of this curve is XuanluGB5(Xuanlu (GB5) [5]).
Function:
Clearing heat and relieving pain.


Indications:
Migraine, pain in the outer canthus, and facial swelling.


Prescription:
Combined use with WaiguanTE5 (Waiguan (TE5) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point [6]) for treatment of migraine; and with JingmingBL1 (Jingming (BL1) [7]) for treatment of conjunctivitis.


Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 3 min.
