Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-superior auricular muscle-temporal fascia-temporal muscle.
There are the anastomotic branches of the auriculotemporal nerve and the lesser greater occipital nerves, the parietal branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein, and the posterior auricular artery and vein in this area.
Location:
Sit upright with one's back propped, or lie prostrate on one's side; on the upper side of zygomatic arch, anterior side of the ear, in the depression which comes into being when the mouth opens.
Function:
Inducing resuscitation and improving hearing, tranquilizing the mind and relieving toothache.
Indications:
Headache, deafness, tinnitus, deviation of the eye and mouth, and toothache.
Prescription:
Combined use with ShuaiguGB8 (Shuaigu (GB8) [3]) and LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point [4]) for treatment of migraine; and with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20) [5]) for treatment of vertigo.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5 cun depth;needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5 min.
