Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-superior auricular muscle-superficial temporal fascia and temporal muscle.
There are the branches of the auriculotemporal nerve and the anterior auricular branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein in this area.


Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one's side; fold the auricle half and half vertically, the spot where the upper tip of the auricle reaches is JiaosunTE20(Jiaosun (TE20) [3]) .
Function:
Clearing away the heat, and expelling the wind.


Indications:
Parotitis, toothache, leucoma, optic neuritis, retinal hemorrhage, swollen auricle, perioral myospasm, stomatitis, and dysmasesia, vomiting, goiter.


Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point [4]) for treatment of gingivitis; and with YifengTE17 (Yifeng (TE17) [5]) for treatment of tympanitis.


Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally, 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local distension, radiating toward the auricle; moxibustion: using 3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
