Acupuncture Points / Kidney Meridian [2]

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greter pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the 2nd intercostal nerve and the perforating branches of the internal thoracic artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the medial and lateral pectoral nerves.

Location:
Supine position; on the vertical line passing through the midpoint between mid-sternal line and midclavicular line, in the 2nd intercostal space.
Function:
Relieving the oppressed sensation in the chest, regulating the flow of qi, and lowering the adverse flow of qi.

Indications:
Bronchitis, pleuritis, intercostal neuralgia, asthma, dyspnea, hiccup, vomiting, and anorexia.

Prescription:
Combined use with DabaoSP21 (Dabao (SP21) Major Luo-Connecting Point of the Spleen [3]) for treatment of pleuritis; and with FeishuBL13 (Feishu (BL13) [4]) for treatment of bronchitis.

Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally, 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the external intercostal membrane-the internal intercostal muscles-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, cause an injury to lung, leading to pneumatothorax. Deeper penetration on left side would injure the pulmonary artery and cause the bleeding of pleural cavity.
