Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-gastrocnemius muscle-plantar muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the small saphenous vein the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh and the medial cutaneous nerve of the calf. In the deep layer, there are the popliteal artery and vein and the tibial nerve.


Location:
Lie pronely or sit upright with drooping feet; 2 cun vertically below WeizhongBL40(Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point [3]).
Function:
Promoting the blood circulation and regulating menstruation, relaxing muscles and tendons, removing obstruction from the channels and collaterals, and strengthening the waist and knee.


Indications:
Backache, soreness and pain in the waist and knee, intestinal hemorrhage, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, pain due to hernia, orchitis, and endometrial inflammation.


Prescription:
Combined use with HuiyangBL35 (Huiyang (BL35) [4]) for treatment of prostatitis; and with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14) [5]) for treatment of epilepsy.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 1-2 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating toward the foot; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
