Acute stage of COPD is mostly caused by direct invasion of lung by cold according to TCM differentiation, symptoms do not have exterior syndrome such as aversion to cold and fever but have cough, sputum, asthma. Treatment principles are to warm up body to stop cold, benefit qi to eliminate asthma. Ingredients have Gui Zhi [3], Bai Shao [4], Bai Zhu [5], Huang Qin [6], Fang Feng [7], Fa Ban Xia [8], Zi Su Zi [9], Yu Xin Cao, Qing Pi [10] etc. Heat syndrome with cough, sputum with white or yellow color or sticky yellow sputum, asthma, dry mouth with bitter taste, dry stool, purplish red tongue, thin yellow coating, wiry, rolling and rapid pulse are caused by obstruction of phlegm and heat disturbing the function of lung in descending and dispersing qi, treatment principles are clear heat and stop phlegm, activate blood. Prescription is modification of Ma Xin Gan Shi Tang and Fu Yuan Huo Xue Tang, ingredients: Shen Ma Huang [11], Xin Ren, Shen Shi Gao [12], Gan Cao [13], Ting Li Zi [14], Yu Xin Cao, Tian Hua Fen [15], Hong Hua [16], Dang Gui [17], Chao Chuan Shan Jia [18], Tao Ren [19], Hong Hua, Sheng Da Huang [20], effect is quick and good. Besides, do not to strengthen anti-pathogenic factors such as qi, yang, or yin and yang.
