Brief Discussion on Cognition of “Subhealth” Condition by TCM (I) [1]

The writer believes the TCM syndrome differentiation of subhealth condition can be considered according to the items listed below:

(1) Qi deficiency: the main symptoms include fatigue, sleepiness, spontaneous sweating, weakness, weak pulse, pale tongue, which are the basis for diagnosis; treatment method: reinforcing middle jiao and promoting qi; prescription: Si Jun Zi Tang, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang with modification, combining with rest.
(2) Qi and Yin deficiency: the basic symptoms comprise laziness, fatigue, deficient breath and unwilling to speak, burning sensation of five centers, red cheek, pale red tongue, weak pulse etc; treatment method: promoting qi and nourishing yin; prescription: Sheng Mai San with modification.
(3) Qi deficiency and fever: the primary symptoms include fatigue, spontaneous sweating, short breath and unwilling to speak, fever in the afternoon (low fever), pale complexion, pale tongue, poor appetite, weak pulse; treatment method: promoting qi, ascending yang and strengthen exterior, tonifying spleen; prescription: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang with modification.
(4) Qi deficiency and blood stagnation: the main symptoms consist of lethargy, fatigue, short breath and unwilling to speak, dark complexion, dark and pale tongue, wiry thin and uneven pulse; treatment: reinforcing qi and  invigorate the flow of blood, removing stasis and activating collaterals; prescription: Si Jun Zi Tang plus Dang Gui [3], Chuan Xiong [4], Hong Hua [5], Dan Shen [6] etc.
