The Emperor asked: "What are the branch and root of a disease? What are the straight needling and paradoxical needling?"

Qi Bo answered: "In all acupuncture practice, a doctor must differentiate yin and yang, and master the relationship between the first disease and the next one. He must take appropriate measures straight or paradoxically, and treat the branch and root flexibly."

"So it is said that: The branch is treated when the disease is at the branch, the root is treated when the disease is at the root, or the branch is treated when the disease remains at the root, the root is treated when the disease remains at the branch."

Key Words: discussion of transmissions of branch and root diseases, in the plain questions
