Chinese Medicine Classic / Nei Jin [2]

The Emperor asked: "What about pulse feeling?"

Qi Bo answered: "Ordinarily, pulse feeling is taken at dawn when the yin qi has not been disturbed, and the yang qi has not been dispersed. Foods have not been taken. The channels have not been exuberant. The blood vessels are harmonious, and the qi and blood have not been disordered. At this time, abnormal pulses can be detected."

"Feeling the movements or quietness of the pulse, a doctor should look at the spirit in the eyes, and inspect the five colors of the complexion. The excess or deficiency of the five zang-organs, strength or weakness of the six fu-organs, and exuberance or debilitation of the appearance should be observed. Consult all the information to predict death and life."
