Respecting the five zang-organs, six fu-organs and other organs the heart is the monarch; the ears dominate hearing for heart; the eyes dominate vision for it; the lungs are the premier; the liver is the general; the spleen is the guard; the kidneys govern the exterior.

So the fluids of the five zang-organs, six fu-organs all seep upward to the eyes. If one is greatly sorrowful, the heart system gets spasmodic. Spasms make the lungs feel lifted. The lifted lungs make the fluids exude upward. The heart system and lungs cannot stay at the normal places. The qi abruptly goes up and suddenly goes down, coughing occurs, and tears appear.
