Chinese Medicine Classic / Nei Jin [2]

The Emperor asked: “Why do the four limbs fail to move freely when the spleen gets ill?”

Qi Bo answered: “The four limbs are endowed with qi from stomach. If the qi fails to reach the channels, it is due to disorders of the spleen, which dominates the endowment. The spleen cannot move fluids for the stomach when it is ill. The four limbs cannot receive qi from water and grains. The qi weakens day after day. The blood vessels become impeded. The tendons, bones and muscles cannot be nourished by the qi. So the four limbs fail to move at will.”
