TCM Foundation / Zang Fu System [2]

The lung has its channel connecting with the large intestine and it is therefore externally-internally related to each other. It opens into the nose. The main functions of lung are dominating qi and controlling respiration, regulating water passages and dominating the skin and hair.

Through its function of dispersing and descending, it inhales clean qi to supply the body and exhales waste qi. As the function of the lung greatly influences the functional activities of the whole body, the lungs dominate the qi of entire body.

The dispersing and descending function of lung regulates water passages, promoting water metabolism. The dispersing function turns a part of the body fluid into sweat to be excreted, while the descending function continuously sends a part of the body fluid down to the kidney and into the urinary bladder to be excreted as urine.

The lung disperses the essentials of food to the body' surface, giving luster to the skin, gloss and luxuriance to hair, and regulating the opening and closing of the pores.
