Chinese Medicine Classic / Nei Jin [2]

The three months of summer are called exuberance and beauty. The heavenly qi and earthly qi cross, and everything blooms and bears fruits. A man should go to bed late and get up early, and not be abhorrent of sun shine, so as to turn away his mind from anger, and let his spirit become vigorous and let the yang qi discharge to the outside, just as if his beloved things were at the outside.  These behaviors are responses to the summer qi, and ways of nourishing growth. If he is disobedient to these, the heart will be damaged, and malaria will occur in the autumn, because of a bad basis for autumn harvest.
