Observation on therapeutic effect of facial spasm given by fire needle [1]

Objective: To compare therapeutic effect of fire needle therapy with filiform needle therapy on treatment of facial spasm.

Method: 127 patients who suffered from facial spasm are randomly divided into treatment group (79 patients) and control group (48 patients). Treatment group received fire needle therapy on Taiyang, Cuanzhu (BL2) [3], Quanliao (SI18) [4] and Dicang (ST4) [5]; control group received filiform needle therapy with same points. We observe and compare the therapeutic effect on two groups.

Result: The cure rate and effective rate in treatment group are 64.6% and 92.4%, and, 45.8% and 87.5% in control group respectively. The therapy effect has a significant difference in two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion: Fire needle therapy is an effective therapy for facial spasm, its effect is better than that of filiform needle therapy.
