Bu Gu Zhi

Tonify Deficiencies

1 TASTE
Bitter, pungent and very warm


2 MERIDIANS
Kidney and spleen


3 FUNCTIONS
1. To tonify kidneys and strengthen yang; 2. To prevent emissions and nocturnal urination; 3. To warm the spleen and stop Diarrhea


4 INDICATIONS
1. Deficient kidneys manifested as impotence and soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees. Psoralea fruit (Bu Gu Zhi) is used with Dadder seed (Tu Si Zi), Cistanche (Rou Cong Rong)and Eucommia bark (Du Zhong).    2. Nocturnal urination and emissions due to kidney deficiency. Psoralea fruit (Buguzhi) is used with Bitter cardamom (Yi Zhi Ren) and Dioscorea (Shan Yao).    3. Diarrhea due to deficiency of yang of the spleen and kidneys. Psoralea fruit (Buguzhi) is used with Evodia fruit (Wu Zhu Yu), Nutmeg (Rou Dou Kou) and Schisandra fruit (Wu Wei Zi) in the formula Sishen Wan.


5 DOSAGE
5-10g


6 COUTIONS
This herb is contraindicated in cases with deficiency of yin with excessive fire as well as constipation.
