Lung Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-brachioradial muscle-radial flexor muscle of wrist-between superficial flexor muscle of fingers and round pronator muscle-long flexor muscle of thumb. In the superficial layer, there are the cephalic vein and the branches of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm. In the deep layer, there are the radial artery and vein and the superficial branches of the radial nerve.


Location:
Stretched arm with supine palm; on the medial border of the radius, 1 cun above the midpoint of the line connecting ChizeLU5 (Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point) and TaiyuanLU9 (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point).
Function:
Regulating Qi and moistening the lung; clearing away heat to stop bleeding.


Indications:
Hemptysis, cough, asthma, febrile disease with anhidrosis, headache, sore-throat, aphonia, spasmodic pain of the elbow and the arm, difficulty in flexing and pain in the wrist, hemorrhoid, etc.


Prescription:
Combined with DazhuiGV14(Dazhui (GV14)) and FeishuBL13 (Feishu (BL13)) for treatment of pneumonia; with TiantuCV22 (Tiantu (CV22)), FenglongST40 (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point) and YamenGV15(Yamen (GV15)) for treatment of aphasia; with TianquanPC2 (Tianquan (PC2)), TaixiKI3 (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point), XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point), ShufuKI27 (Shufu (KI27)), QixueKI13 (Qixue (KI13)), FujieSP14 (Fujie (SP14)), ShaoshangLU11 (Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point) and FubaiGB10 (Fubai (GB10)) for treatment of cough with dyspnea; with ChizeLU5 (LU5) and NeiguanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of acute hemoptysis.


Methods:
Direction: Puncture perpendicularly; depth: 1-1.5 cun; needling response: local sensation of numbness and distention irradiating downward; moxibustion: 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
