Conception (Ren) Vessel

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-linea alba-transverse fascia-extraperitoneal fat tissue-parietal peritoneum.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the iliohypogastric nerve and the tributaries of the superficial epigastric vein.In the deep layer, there are the branches of the iliohypogastric nerve.


Location:
Lie supinely; at the midpoint of the upper margin of pubic bone, on the linea alba.
Function:
Tonifying the kidney and promoting diuresis, regulating menstruation and stopping leukorrhagia.


Indications:
Retention and dribbling of urine, enuresis, emission, impotence, leukorrhea with reddish discharge, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and hernia.


Prescription:
Combined use with YinlingquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point) for treatment of cystitis and urethritis; with HuiyangBL35 (Huiyang (BL35)) for treatment of prostatitis; with ZhongjiCV3 (Zhongji (CV3) Front-Mu Point of the Bladder), SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), BaihuiGV20 (Baihui (GV20)), and YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3) for treatment of enuresis; with HengguKI11 (Henggu (KI11)) and QichongST30 ( Qichong (ST30)) for treatment of prolapse of uterus.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local sensation of numbness and distention, radiating toward the urethra; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Before puncture, the patient must have his bladder evacuated, or else the filled bladder, which is higher than the upper margin of pubic bone, would be penetrated, and cause the flowing of urine to the peritoneal cavity, leading to peritonitis.
