Kidney Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior sheath of rectus straoght muscle of abdomen-rectus muscle of abdomen.
In the superficial layer, there are the superficial epigastric vein, the anterior branches of the anterior branches of the 6th to 8th thoracic nernes and the accompanying arteries and veins. In tne deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior epigadtric artery and vein, the muscular branches of the anterior branches of 6th to 8th thoracic nerves and the related intercostal arteies and veins.


Location:
Supine position; firstly, locate ShangwanCV13(Shangwan (CV13)) 5 cun vertically above umbilicus, then 0.5 cun lateral toShangwanCV13(CV13).
Function:
Regulating the intestines and stomach, recuperating qi and blood, removing obstruction from the channels and collaterals, and tranquilizing the mind.


Indications:
Acute and chronic gastritis, indigestion, gastric dilatation, asthma, pulmonary emphysema, epilepsy, palpitation, intercostal neuralgia, vomiting, Diarrhea, acute hyoglossal muscle spasm, risorius muscle paralysis, and conjunctival congestion.


Prescription:
Combined use with FutuLI18 (Futu (LI18)) for treatment of nervous vomiting; and with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)) for treatment of epilepsy.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local distension and heaviness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Futonggu (KI20) Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the posterior wall of vagina musculi recti abdominis-the transverse fascia-the extraperitoneal axungia-the parital
peritoneum-the peritoneal cavity-the visceral peritoneum and the lesser curvature of stomach ( when half filled ) or the anterior border of liver by its tip, and cause an injury to gastric wall and
liver.
