Small Intestine Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-infraspinous muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 4th thoracic nerves and their accompanying arteries and veins. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the suprascapular nerve and the branches or tributaries of the circumflex scapular artery and vein.


Location:
Straight sitting or pronation. 1. On the bisector of the line connecting the inferior border of the spina scapulae and the lower tip of the scapula, at the juncture of the upper and the middle one third. 2. Draw a straight line through the inferior border of spina scapulae and the lower tip of scapula, on the level below spinous process of the 4th thoracic vertebra, an apex of a triangle with NaoshuSI10(Naoshu (SI10)) , and JianzhengSI9(Jianzhen (SI9)) as a base.
Function:
Clearing and activating the channels and collaterals, regulating the flow of qi and relieving swelling.


Indications:
Pain in the scapular region, pain in the lateroposterior aspect of the elbow and arm, and asthma.


Prescription:
Combined use with RugenST18 (Rugen (ST18)) for treatment of mastitis; JianliaoTE14 (Jianliao (TE14)) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis; with ShouwuliLI13 (Shouwuli (LI13)) for treatment of brachialgia.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun deep; needling response: local for treatment of brachialgia.sensation of distension, radiating to the shoulder; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
