Xiong-Bi

Internal Medicine

Type 1: Deficiency-cold syndrome
Symptoms:
Chest pain radiating to the back, palpitation, oppression feeling in the chest, shortness of breath, aversion to cold, cold limbs, which are all aggravated by coldness. The tongue is with white and greasy coating. There is deep, and slow pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Replenishing Yang to dispel coldness. Select Back-Shu points, points of Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin and Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, Moxibustion is used after needling.
Selection of points:
Xinshu (BL15) ( Xinshu (BL15)), Jueyinshu (BL14) (Jueyinshu (BL14)) Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point (Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
For aversion to cold, Feishu (BL13) (Feishu (BL13)) and Fengmen (BL12) (Fengmen (BL12)) are added with moxibustion; for cold limbs, Qihai (CV6) (RN6) or Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine (RN4) is added with moxibustion.
Type 2: Phlegm syndrome
Symptoms:
Choking pain in the chest,, which may radiate to the back, shortness of breath, dyspnea, cough with profuse whitish sputum, whitish and greasy tongue coating, soft and slow pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Dispersing obstruction of chest-yang to dispel phlegm. Select points from Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin and Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Needling with reducing method.
Prescription:
Juque (CV14) Front-Mu Point of the Heart (RN14), Danzhong (CV17) Front-Mu Point of the Pericardium (RN17), Ximen (PC4) Xi-Cleft Point (Ximen (PC4) Xi-Cleft Point), Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point), Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
For pain in the back, Feishu (BL13) and Xinshu (BL15) are added, cupping therapy is advisable; for shortness of breath, Qihaishu (BL24) (Qihaishu (BL24)) and Shenshu (BL23) (Shenshu (BL23)) are used with moxibustion
Type 3: Blood stasis syndrome
Symptoms:
Stabbing pain in the chest, or paroxysmal variant angina, pain radiating to the shoulder and back, oppression feeling in the chest, shortness of breath, palpitation, purple lips, deep-red tongue, weak and uneven pulse or intermittent pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis. Select Front-Mu points Back-Shu points, and points of Ren Meridian and Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin. Needling with reducing method.
Prescription:
Danzhong (RN17), Juque (RN14), Geshu (BL17) (Geshu (BL17)), Yinxi (HT6) Xi-Cleft Point (Yinxi (HT6) Xi-Cleft Point), Xinshu (BL15).
Modification according to symptoms:
For dark-purple lips and tongue, Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point (Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point), Shaochong (HT9) Jing-Well Point (Shaochong (HT9) Jing-Well Point) and Zhongchong (PC9) Jing-Well Point (Zhongchong (PC9) Jing-Well Point) are pricked for blood-letting.
Cautions and precautions:
The symptom of obstrution of qi in the chest, such as severe pain in the chest, purple-coloured affected area extends to the joints of hand and foot. Perspiration, cold limbs, deep and thready pulse, usually appear in angina pectoris and acute myocardial infarction, thus complex treatment should be applied. In addition, depressed feeling and pain in the chest may appeare in early attack, of carcinoma in the chest diaphragm and esophagus. This needs to be differntiated from the symptom of obstruction of qi.
