Asthma

Internal Medicine

Type 1: Cold fluid was retained in the lung
Symptoms:
Principle of treatment:
Expelling cold, ventilating the lung and relieving wheezing. Select points of Hand-Taiyin and Foot-Taiyang Meridians. Reducing method is used. Moxibustion and cupping are applied on back points .
Prescription:
Modification according to symptoms:
For stuffy and running nose, Juque (CV14) Front-Mu Point of the Heart (RN14) is added. For headache and backache, Wenliu (LI7) Xi-Cleft Point (Wenliu (LI7) Xi-Cleft Point) is added. For aversion to cold and fever, Zhizheng (SI7) Luo-Connecting Point (Zhizheng (SI7) Luo-Connecting Point) was added.
Type 2: Accumulation of phlegm and heat in the lung
Symptoms:
Cases with heat-fluid retaining in the lung,causing impairment of the purifying and descending function of the lung due to wind-heat, manifesting as coughing with dyspnea and panting, flushed face, fever and sweating, thick and yellowish phlegm difficult to expel out, thirst, fidget, chest pain due to coughing, yellowish and greasy fur, floating and full or slippery and rapid pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Clearing away heat and restoring function of the lung. Relieving asthma. Select points mainly from Taiyin and Yangming Meridians. Reducing method is used.
Prescription:
Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), Dazhui (GV14) (DU14), Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point), Danzhong (CV17) Front-Mu Point of the Pericardium (RN17), Zhongfu (LU1) (Zhongfu (LU1)), Kongzui (LU6)Xi-Cleft Point (Kongzui (LU6)Xi-Cleft Point)
Modification according to symptoms:
For severe dyspnea, cupping is applied on Feishu (BL13) (Feishu (BL13)),Yunmen (LU2) (Yunmen (LU2))
Type 3: Deficiency Syndrome
Symptoms:
Cases with dificiency of lung , manifesting as pale complexion, spontaneous perspiration and aversion to cold, short breath and deficiency of Qi, speaking without vigor. Cases with deficiency of spleen, manifesting as dim complexion, poor appetite and fullness in the epigastra region, with profuse expectoration, tiredness, loose stool. Cases with deficiency of kidney, manifested as darkish complexion, short breath exacerbated in physical exertion, palpitation, dizziness, lumbago, cold lower limbs. Cases with insufficency of heart-yang, manifesting as palpitation, hyperhidrosis, coma, cyanotic lips and finger nail, cold limbs.
Principle of treatment:
Strengthening the body resistance to consolidate the constitution. Resolving sputum and relieving asthma. Points of Hand-Taiyin and Back Shu are selected mainly, Reinforcement or reinforcement associated with reduction or moxibustion are applied. For cases of deficient type with cold are treated according to dyspnea of excess type.
Prescription:
Dingchuan (EX-B1),Gaohuang (BL43) (Gaohuang (BL43)), Feishu (BL13), Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point)
Modification according to symptoms:
For deficiencies of both lung and spleen, Pishu (BL20) (Pishu (BL20)), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) are added to strengthen the spleen and the stomach. For deficiency of both lung and kidney, Shenshu (BL23) (Shenshu (BL23)), Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) are added. For insufficency of the heart-yang tended to manifest prostration syndrome, Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point (Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point) are added to strengthen heart and Qihai (CV6) (RN6),Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine (RN4), Mingmen (GV4) (DU4) are alpplied with moxibustion to prevent prostration.
Cautions and precautions:
Patients with dyspnea must pay attention to keep body warm and to prevent from catching cold, the food used to precipitate disease should be prohibited.Predisposing factors should be avoided. Stopping smoke is one of conditions that decrease attack of the disease and prevent exacerbation.
