Malaria

Infectious Diseases

Type 1:
Symptoms:
At an attack of malaria , yawn first appears, followed by weariness, shivering with gooseflesh. Then the patient has a fever all over body, body interior and exterior with a flushed face and thirst, profused sweating and had a abatement of fever at last. Case with damp phlegm, accompanied by symptoms such as epigastric fullness, nausea, vomiting, chest distress and coughing, Case with malarial disease attacking the interior, manifesting as high fever, coma, delirium,
spasm.Protracted malaria reveals non-periodical episodes, manifesting as yellowish face, debility, fullness and rigidity of hypochondrium.
Principle of treatment:
Regulating Shaoyang to eliminate pathogenic factor and preventing attack of malaria. Select points mainly from Du Meridian,and Hand three yang meridian. For newly-infected cases with excessive fever, reducting method is used. For old case with excessive cold, reinforcing method is used.1-2 hours before seizure of malaria. Moxibustion is added after acupuncture.
Prescription:
Dazui (DU14), Houxi (SI3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point (Houxi (SI3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point), Yemen (TE2) Ying-Spring Point (SJ2), Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point (Shangyang (LI1) Jing-Well Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
Just at an attack of malaria, Shixuan (EX-UE11) is added and pricked for blood-letting. For damp phlegm, Feishu (BL13) (Feishu (BL13)), Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point) are added. For convulsion Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), Shuigou (GV26) (DU26) are added. For old cases, Pishu (BL20) (Pishu (BL20)), Weishu (BL21) (Weishu (BL21)), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) are added. For cases with mass in the abdomen, Zhangmen (LR13)Front-Mu Point of the Spleen, Influential Point of Zang Organs (Zhangmen (LR13)Front-Mu Point of the Spleen, Influential Point of Zang Organs), Pigen (EX-B4) are added.
Cautions and precautions:
The treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion on malaria tertiana not only controlls the symptoms, but also eliminats malarial parasite. For cases with pernicious malaria, comprehensive treatment should be administered.
